TSA On A Spending Spree

Commits To Millions At Sea-Tac, Minneapolis-St. Paul

The TSA is spending a lot of money these days. The agency says it's signed an agreement with the Port of Seattle for $6.5 million. The funds will help offset the cost of installing additional Explosives Detection Systems (EDS) machines, associated baggage handling system equipment, and Explosives Trace Detection (ETD) equipment. This explosive detection equipment will support an interim baggage screening solution at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for Alaska Airlines.

TSA has signed an agreement with Metropolitan Airports Commission for $3 million. The funds will help offset the cost of modifying airport facilities where a checked baggage screening system featuring new Explosives Detection System (EDS) machines is housed. The modification will be completed in the spring of 2005.

"This agreement promotes both stronger security and improved customer convenience though use of the latest and most efficient technology," said Admiral Stone. "This is a testament to the ongoing partnership and commitment among TSA, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the airlines."

"TSA continues to partner with the airports and airlines to deploy the most advanced technology that to ensure improved customer convenience and security," said Admiral Stone.
