Cub On Long Island Damaged By AF2 Jet Blast

No One Was On Board The Piper When The Incident Occurred

Air Force Two was preparing to depart from Francis S. Gabrenski Airport with Vice President Joe Biden on board Wednesday morning when the jet blast from the Boeing 757's engines picked up and dropped a Piper Cub, damaging the smaller airplane.

Air Force 2

Air Force Major Michelle Lai told the Associated Press that the Cub was lifted into the air by the jetwash from Air Force 2 as it taxied for takeoff from the airport in Westhampton Beach, NY. The left wing of the airplane, which belongs to an aerial media company, was damaged in the incident, but no one was on board at the time.

An investigation will determine the extent of the damage to the Cub, and who should be responsible for paying for the repairs.

Not being equipped with a rear-view mirror, AF2 departed the airport with its occupants unaware of what had happened on the tarmac.
