G1000 Certified For Mooneys

Deliveries Expected To Begin Soon

The Mooney Airplane Company has announced the certification of the Garmin G1000 avionics suite featured in the GX versions of its popular Ovation and Bravo high performance single engine aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to Garmin on November 16, 2004 and Mooney incorporated the approval into its Type Certificate.

"The Mooney Bravo and Ovation GX models will be the first high performance single engine aircraft to enter service with the G1000 avionics suite. The receipt of this certification marks another important milestone in our ongoing commitment to build aircraft that reflect exceptional craftsmanship and state of the art performance," said Mooney's Vice President of Sales and Marketing David Copeland.

"The G1000 avionics suite integrates an impressive array of functions that will enhance safety by easing the pilot's workload. The displays are easy to read, even in bright sunlight, and the presentation is similar to that of a business jet," he added.

The G1000 avionics suite offered on the Ovation GX and Bravo GX includes:

  • Advanced Solid State Attitude Heading & Reference System (AHRS) with rapid
alignment available on the ground or in the air
  • Dual integrated GPS modules that provide IFR oceanic-approved navigation,
with optional upgrade for WAAS compatibility
  • Digital air data computer
  • Dual VHF navigation with ILS
  • VHF communication with 16 watt transceivers and 8.33 kHz channel spacing
    capability
  • Digital audio control panel with integrated marker beacon and clearance
    playback capability
  • Mode S Transponder with Traffic Information System (TIS) in US airspace
  • Worldwide VFR terrain database depicting topographic information and
    relative terrain
  • Full, in-flight reversionary capabilities that allow flight critical
information to transfer to a single display
  • EICAS interface for engine/airframe information
  • Fuel quantity/fuel flow indicator

Available (on a subscription basis):

  • XM WX satellite weather data, depicting near real-time NEXRAD imagery, echo tops, winds aloft at altitude, precipitation (at surface), lightning, storm cell data, satellite mosaic, graphical and textual METARs

Beginning in 2005, Garmin says it will bundle with Mooneys its XM Satellite Radio receiver featuring full-color graphical weather information via digital data link and 130 channels of CD-quality audio.
