Red Bull Racing Pilots Train In Slovenia

Practice In Anticipation Of A 2014 Racing Season

Pilots hoping to fly in anticipated Red Bull Air Race events spent a week in Slovenia at a small airport called Rakican training to qualify for licences to participate in the events.

The pilots operated out of a hangar temporarily branded with the Red Bull logo at the airport from June 4 - 11. The 'Unofficial' Red Bull Air Race website "Smoke On!" reports that 25 pilots were working towards their Red bull Air Race Super License. The certificate is required to prove they are competent and safe to fly around the inflatable pylons at high speeds and low altitudes.

The website reports that among those at the "camp" were veteran pilots Besenyei, Nigel Lamb and Nicolas Ivanoff. 2008 World Champion Hannes Arch was also among those in Solvenia for the week, as were Russian Sergei Rakhmanin and Germany’s Matthias Dolderer.

The website reports that a video team from Red Bull Air Race GmbH was on hand to film the training.

The site reported in 2012 that Red Bull Air Race GmbH said in a statement that it planned to resume racing on a fixed calendar season in 2014, after skipping 2013.
