Car Hits Huey Cobra In Drunk Driving Accident

Helicopter Was Parked On The Side Of The Road By A Veteran's Charity

A 1967 AH-1F Cobra helicopter what was part of a display set up by a local Columbia, SC veterans charity was damaged when a drunk driver ran into the aircraft last week.

The website Task and Purpose reports that the aircraft was part of a display put together by Celebrate Freedom Foundation. The charity uses the aircraft, which has been named "Annie" by the group, as port of its STEM education program.

The South Carolina Highway patrol posted a Tweet about the incident which said the aircraft suffered about a half-million dollars in damages. The driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol. In a video posted with the Tweet, a narrator says ""This holiday period, if you're going to go out to a holiday party or visit friends and family, make sure you have a plan in place if you plan to consume alcohol. Don't have us knocking on any more doors, for heaven's sake, and don't be like this guy."
