Airbus Delivers Delayed A380 To Qantas

First Since Engine Failure In November

Airbus has delivered an A380 airliner to Qantas, the first to be delivered to the Australian carrier since an uncontained engine failure in one of its aircraft grounded the fleet.

An Airbus spokesman told the French news service AFP that the plane had been delivered in Toulouse in southern France. Qantas now has seven of the super-jumbo airplanes.

The delivery of the airplane was delayed after what a Qantas spokesperson described as a "small anomaly" caused a Trent 900 engine to catastrophically fail in flight in November. Qantas grounded its entire fleet of A380s while the incident was investigated. Qantas says the problem had also been detected on airplanes operated by other airlines.

So far, only two of Qantas' seven airplanes have returned to service. AFP reports that Airbus has delivered 16 of the aircraft since January, and Qantas should receive a second delivery by the end of the year.
