Three Killed In Florida Mid-Air Collision

Piper PA-32, RV-6 Involved In Accident

Two aircraft collided in mid-air in central Florida Saturday, killing the three people on board the planes. The accident happened in VFR conditions on a clear, sunny day near Williston, FL.

A witness told the Associated Press that she heard what sounded like a gunshot near her home, and discovered the RV-6 upside down in a field nearby. The Piper was found burning in a densely wooded area less than a quarter-mile away.

Authorities found the bodies of two people in the Piper. Their names are being withheld pending notification of relatives. The pilot of the RV-6 has been identified as Lee Hanley Sentman III, according to the Ocala Star-Banner.

The amateur-built/experimental SportPlane reportedly departed from Ocala, while the Piper had taken off from Williston Municipal airport, but further details are sketchy. "There are a lot of unknowns right now," said Levy County(FL) Sheriff's Office Capt. Evan Sullivan.
