Economics Shoots Down Highly-Regarded Canadian Airshow
The Annual London
International AirFest has been canceled barely a month before the
big event. Show officials posted the following statement in
explanation.
"It is with deep regret that due to the continued increase
in costs and the loss of several sponsors, the Organizers of the
2005 London International AirFest will be forced to cancel this
year's show.
In addition to the above, 2 of our media partners have
reduced their support of the show and our primary radio partner has
confirmed that in the event of a Federal Election, they will be
forced to cancel all of our advertising in the weeks leading up to
the show. This combination of circumstances has forced us to make
this
decision.
In the end, we must ensure that the charities, the suppliers
and the businesses that provide support to the show are paid in a
timely manner. We are very sorry that we can not proceed this year,
but the chances of not meeting the fiscal responsibilities are far
too great.
The Directors and Volunteers of the show have performed
remarkably and we are so proud of them.
Over our 5 years of operating the show, we have ensured that
all bills have been paid, although only one of the years was
profitable. In that time, the show has also contributed in excess
of $142,000.00 to local charities and organizations.
It has been a very difficult decision but the only decision
if the AirFest is to continue June 23 - 25, 2006."
Coinciding with the
AirFest is the Annual DiamondFest gathering at the Diamond Flight
Center located at the airport. DAPO officials are polling
membership to see if any changes need be made to this year's
schedule of events. We'll let you know if they decide to make any
changes.
