Sanjay Dhall Readies His Wild Dream 1 For Fight Test

Metro Detroit’s Entry In The Flying Car Space Inches Closer To Its 1st Flight

By Anthony J. Liberatore

On Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th Sanjay Dhall of Detroit Flying Cars will update Airventure attendees of his progress on his WD-1, aka the Wild Dream 1 at the EAA Forums Building at the Aviation Gateway Park.

Unlike last year when the WD-1 was on display at Airventure, it will not be at Oshkosh because of the milestones it has reached.

If you look at the pictures with this article, you can see WD-1 is now registered (N112SD) and it has received a special airworthy certificate so that the WD-1 can begin it’s flight testing. While the Aero-News audience is aware of the breadth and scope of such a testing regime, the WD1 has taxied briefly under its electric, ground based drive-train as well as its AM15H Aeromentum aviation power-plant.

While the WD-1, licensed and certificated in experimental category has occurred in the last few weeks, so has the relocation of the WD-1 from where it was built at Canton Metetal Airport (ID2) to neighboring Willow Run Airport (YIP), which is a better fit as a testing location, given that it is a controlled airfield with much longer runways.

I was actually asked to help with this move since Sanjay and  I are fellow EAA Chapter 113 members.

Sanjay and I have been friends for over 6 years and I have had the pleasure of watching the WD-1 progress throughout it’s gestation period.

I received a call about 2 weeks ago asking to borrow our pickup truck. My initial response was yes, however after reconsidering how long in the tooth our TSport-Trac is and given the robustness of the trailer, I concluded it wasn’t up for the task.

When I told Sanjay of our truck's challenges, he was very gracious as always and thanked me and noted other chapter members had offered their new and larger pickups and they made the move to Willow Run a reality.

To attend his Forums, and to follow Sanjay, and his WD-1's progress see the information below:

Both Forums on the WD1 will be held in the EAA Forums Building in the Aviation Gateway Park on the following two dates...

  • July 27th 2018, at    2:30pm to    3:45pm
  • July 28th 2018, at  10:00am to  11:15pm
