Mechanic Dies When Struck By King Air Door

Was Working On Aircraft When Door 'Blew Off'

A Texas mechanic was killed last week, after the cabin door of a Beechcraft King Air 200 "blew off" and struck him in the head.

The Austin American-Stateman reports Larry Hagerman, 42, was transported to a local hospital, where he passed away early Friday morning. Hagerman owned Aircraft Certification Services at Taylor Municipal Airport (T74) where the accident occurred.

Hagerman was opening the door from the outside after the King Air (type shown at right) landed, according to KXAN-TV in Austin, when it separated from the aircraft.

FAA investigator John Bures said the plane has been grounded, as agency officials take a close look at the King Air's pressurization systems.

"Next step is to analyze all the circuits involved with the cabin pressurization, switches, controllers, everything that effects that function and determine exactly what happened," Bures said.

Hagerman is survived by two children, ages 12 and 14. His wife was lost in an August 2007 vehicle accident.
