Layoffs Coming To Alabama Goodrich Facility

78 Workers Will Be Let Go At Airplane Maintenance Center

78 employees at the Goodrich Airplane Maintenance Center in Foley, Alabama will be let go in January, company officials said Monday. The reason given was a "slowdown" in aircraft maintenance.

Patrick Palmer, a spokesman for Goodrich's aerostructures unit, told the Mobile Press-Register that the layoffs will come from the pool of maintenance workers, leaving that unit about 320 employees. The facility also manufactures new engine nacelles, and that part of the business will not be effected by the downsizing.

Goodrich is still deciding which employees to let go. Palmer said they will be notified in mid-December. The company will offer one week's severance for every year of service, with a 4 week minimum. It will continue to make health and life insurance contributions for six months.
