Brazilian Amphib Ready For The Beach

A new LSA amphibian made its first appearance at the US Sport Aviation Expo 2007, held last weekend in Sebring, FL.

A Brazilian import, the SeaMax is currently certified in Brazil, Portugal, Italy, France, and Sweden... and is currently in the final stages of ASTM certification in the United States. The company hopes to have it added to the growing number of S-LSA by July of 2006.

Currently, there are 42 copies of the slick seaplane flying worldwide, with around three flying off the showroom floor monthly. 

The SeaMax features a composite fuselage, and the majority of those currently flying have a fabric covered wing. Officials with manufacturing company AirMax told ANN the fabric wing allows for easy repairs in remote areas such as the Amazon, where a number of the birds are serving in various roles.

A composite wing will also be available for the S-LSA market, for those who prefer an all-glass ship.

Powered by the popular 100hp Rotax 912S and swinging a three-bladed Warp Drive prop, the SeaMax can reportedly takeoff and land on just 300 feet of runway... or 350 feet of ocean, lake, river, pond or large mud puddle.

The roomy (almost 47” wide) cabin features a central control stick, and dual rudder pedals. Flaps and landing gear are electric, with hydraulic brakes on the pilot’s side. A number of options are available, including dual throttle controls, dual brakes, various instrumentation upgrades, and avionics and radio packages.

The SeaMax is expected to sell for around $150,000 when it arrives on American shores in the coming months.
