Groundbreaking Held For Oshkosh Aviation Business Park

Will Occupy 82 Acres At The Southeast End Of Wittman Regional Airport

Local officials and business leaders broke ground Thursday on a planned aviation business park at the south end of Wittman Regional Airport.

The 82 acre site will be used to attract aviation-related businesses. It is part of a regional approach to business development according to Allen Davis, Oshkosh Community Development Director.

Davis told The Northwestern newspaper that his office is including Outagamie and Fond du Lac county airports in a marketing analysis being used to attract defense contracts to the region. Overall, the Department of Defense has awarded the region a $1 million grant to help local officials diversify the economy in the wake of extensive layoffs at Oshkosh Corp. Those job cuts came as defense contracts dried up last year.

Davis said of the grant money will go towards hiring a consultant to develop covenants and manuals for the new aviation business park. "The aviation industry has its own set of requirements that we want to make sure we accommodate in the new park," he said.
