Blue Skies For Aeronca Convention

Twelfth Annual Convention Wrapped Up Monday

It was a homecoming of sorts at Hook Field in Middletown (OH), as hundreds of people from around the country showed up for the 12th Annual National Aeronca Association convention. Hook Field was headquarters for Aeronca, where the company built its venerable aircraft until 1951. The company is now owned by Magellan Aerospace, which makes aircraft parts.

The convention included contests for the most perfectly-restored aircraft, as well as the most original custom design.

Turnout was reported to have been very good at this year's event -- a big bonus to the city of Middletown, which is trying to rehabilitate the Aeronca plant site. As ANN reported in January, a public-private consortium has received $3 million in grants to clean up the site, which Middletown's economic development director hopes will become a "flashpoint" for future business growth.
