At the request of U.S. national security and law enforcement agencies, the FAA is using its existing authority under 14 CFR § 99.7 – “Special Security Instructions” – to address concerns about unauthorized drone operations over 10 Department of the Interior (DOI) sites, including the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore.

This is the first time the agency has placed airspace restrictions for unmanned aircraft, or “drones,” over DOI landmarks. The FAA has placed similar airspace restrictions over military bases that currently remain in place. The restrictions will be effective October 5, 2017. SecTrans Elaine Chao has named Brian Wynne, president and CEO of AUVSI, to the FFAA Management Advisory Council (MAC). Wynne, who will serve a three-year term on the MAC, will represent the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) community and provide counsel and advice to the FAA on policy and regulatory matters, as well as the agency’s management and spending. “Collaboration between stakeholders increases accountability across the entire aviation community, and I am proud to be selected to help represent unmanned aircraft operators on the MAC,” said Wynne. This is what might happen when your drone grows up... Dubai edging closer to its goal of launching a pioneering hover-taxi service, with authorities announcing a successful "concept" flight made last week -- without passengers. The maiden concept flight of the Autonomous Air Taxi (AAT) involves a vehicle that will be used for the world’s first self-flying taxi service set to be introduced by Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA). All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
