Virgin America Representation Election Vote Opens

Pilots Deciding Whether To Join ALPA

The vote for Virgin America pilots to elect the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) as their certified collective bargaining representative is now open. The more than 600 pilots will have an opportunity to cast their secret ballot through Thursday, June 4, 2015.

“Virgin America pilots are eager to gain a strong voice for their future through ALPA representation.  They recognize the importance of collectively bargaining a legally enforceable agreement and joining ALPA’s 51,000 professional airline pilots in advancing the profession,” said ALPA president Capt. Tim Canoll.

Last month, Virgin America pilots filed authorization cards with the National Mediation Board (NMB) in order to hold an election. After reviewing the overwhelming number of cards submitted, the NMB authorized an election and, today, began sending instructions to pilots on how to participate in the Internet/telephone-based process. Election results should be known shortly after the close of voting on the afternoon of June 4.

“Virgin America pilots told us they are ready for representation,” Canoll said. “We look forward to working with them as they continue their path toward a strong and unified voice with ALPA.”
