AD: The Boeing Company Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2018-18-07

PRODUCT: Certain Boeing 757 airplanes.

ACTION: Final Rule.

SUMMARY: This AD was prompted by an evaluation by the design approval holder (DAH) indicating that the longitudinal lap splices of the fuselage skin are subject to widespread fatigue damage (WFD).

This AD requires repetitive inspections of the longitudinal lap splices of the fuselage skin for cracking and protruding fasteners, and applicable corrective actions.

DATES: This AD is effective October 10, 2018.

COST: The FAA estimates  that this AD affects 509 airplanes of U.S. registry. The cost of compliance is estimated as follows:
Inspections - 367 work-hours × $85 per hour = $31,195 per inspection cycle per aircraft.
