Lilium Jet eVTOL Aircraft Damaged By Fire

The Blaze Broke Out During Ground Maintenance February 27

The full-scale Lilium Jet eVTOL aircraft was damaged by a fire that broke out during ground maintenance in a hangar on February 27.

eVTOL.com reports that the German aircraft company confirmed the incident. "The airport fire brigade attended one of our facilities yesterday following an incident that occurred during regular ground maintenance of one of our demonstrators,” Lilium spokesperson Oliver Walker-Jones told eVTOL.com on Feb. 28. "Nobody was injured and we are now looking at understanding the cause of the issue.”

The incident has been reported to Germany’s Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation. Walker-Jones said the second demonstrator aircraft was not damaged, and the flight test campaign is expected to continue on schedule.

This is the second fire to hit an all-electric aircraft this year. Eviation's Alice prototype was damaged in a fire during ground testing in Prescott, AZ on January 22.
