Airborne 04.02.18: Rob Holland Emergency, WWI @OSH18, FAI Drone Racing

Also: Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion, 'Learn To Fly' Month, Airborne Wireless Network, FlightSafety Int'l

Airshow pilot Rob Holland had a rather harrowing experience late last month, and told much of the story on his Facebook page: Among his remarks, Rob reported that... "...I thought I would fill you in about the events of the past few days...

First to get it out of the way, I’m 100% fine. That said, On March 25th I took off from NAS Kingsville, Texas for a cross-country flight. About 15 minutes into the flight... I lost all engine power." Rob reported that the canopy was covered with oil and that he had to rely on his MGL Avionics system to guide him to a short deserted runway. The final year of World War I centennial activities at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 will feature historic aircraft from the era and flying activities that commemorate the final year of the “Great War” that concluded with the armistice of 1918. The 66th annual Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in convention is July 23-29 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. A massive 24 World Cup contests are already registered on the FAI calendar for this third edition of the FAI Drone Racing World Cup, up from 16 last year and 9 in 2016. That makes the World Cup the biggest drone racing series around, and means lots more opportunities for both pilots and fans to enjoy the electrifying thrills of top-level drone racing. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
