Aero-TV At OSH21: GAMI Fuels The Next-Gen ‘AvGas’ Revolution

G100UL Unleaded Avgas Is The Final Result Of Years Of Dedicated Research And Careful Design

Jim Campbell, Aero-News Editor in Chief, talks about the newest developments at General Aviation Modifications, Inc. (GAMI) with Chief Engineer George Braly and President Tim Roehl. GAMI has been undergoing a grueling certification process to obtain an STC for an improved, unleaded, affordable aviation gasoline to replace classic 100LL. While the low-lead fuel is the mainstay for general aviation, increasing environmental regulation and emissions legislation has made it a target in some municipalities. GAMI has done the leg work and created an excellent, modern replacement that is vital to future use of legacy aircraft. For those owners based in areas hostile to general aviation in their community, 100LL can be used as a pressure point against aircraft operations by municipal restrictions on leaded fuel in their airports.

The new fuel will be distributed by AvFuel, and Roehl says they’re committed to an equitable distribution throughout their North American fueling network, as well as interested distributors. The fuel will be available on a cost basis, underlining just how vital it is for this project to take root. G100UL Unleaded Avgas is the final result of years of dedicated research and careful design, bringing owners and operators exactly what they need to keep their planes flying far into the future. Lead-free, suited to high-performance piston engines, and entirely fungible with standard 100LL, the bright yellow fuel will finally give 'wet-behind-the-ears instructors' a chance to feel like experienced old hands when they tell students “Ah, back in the day it used to be blue!”
