Aero-TV: Sikorsky Aircraft -- Designing the Helicopters of the Future

An Amazing Success Story Continues As Sikorsky Maintains Its Innovative Ways

There are few more compelling stories in American Aerospace than the path trail-blazed by Sikorsky Aircraft. Brilliantly led and tightly focused, this company has innovated itself to be one of the most closely-watched tech companies in the world... with good reason.

At the 2012 Heli-Expo, Sikorsky Boss, Jeff Pino, was riding a pretty substantial wave of good news, just weeks prior to his announcing his impending retirement. Among the news reported at HAI2012 was a sale to Brazilian helicopter operator, Lider Aviacao, of three S-92 helicopters. Lider will operate the aircraft predominantly to serve the growing Petrobras demand for large rotorcraft capable of transporting workers to offshore oil and gas platforms. The three new aircraft will join Lider's existing fleet of four S-92 helicopters and 42 Sikorsky S-76 helicopters serving the offshore oil and gas market in Brazil.

Additionally; Sikorsky and Mexican helicopter service provider ASESA (Aeroservicios Especializados, S.A. de C.V.) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly explore assembly and service opportunities in support of Black Hawk helicopters. Sikorsky also noted the delivery of two offshore utility helicopters to China Southern Airlines' Zhuhai Helicopter Branch company, with a third delivery just days later. These aircraft support offshore oil operations in the South China Sea by Zhuhai's customers. And, one of the world's most powerful structures to dynamically balance helicopter main rotor blades was opened by Composite Technology Inc. (CTI), a Sikorsky Aerospace Services company based at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Of course, it was even bigger news when Bond Aviation Group, the British helicopter operator and subsidiary company of the World Helicopters Group, signed a contract to buy 16 S-92 helicopters. The purchase is the largest one-time acquisition of S-92 aircraft ever received by Sikorsky Aircraft.

Join Aero-News and Aero-TV for a comprehensive report from Sikorsky about all their recent accomplishments, as reported at HAI2012.
