Application Deadline Is November 21st
The Association for Women in
Aviation Maintenance has unveiled its list of available
scholarships for next year, which includes a dozen programs
sponsored by some of the leading names in aviation. While the
programs are open only to AWAM members, they are not restricted to
students, or even to women.
Among the companies sponsoring the scholarships are Abaris
Training Resources, offering programs in Advanced Composite
Structures: Fabrication & Damage Repair, American Eurocopter,
offering in-house maintenance training courses which teach
technicians how to maintain their Eurocopter Helicopter for
intermediate inspections in accordance with the maintenance manual
as well as a thorough understanding of the skills and requirements
needed to evaluate aircraft performance following maintenance
actions. These courses provide “first-hand shop work
experience through on-the-job exercises," Flight Safety, which will
donate a scholarship for their very popular “Principles of
Troubleshooting Course”, used by major airlines, military,
schools, and colleges. Designed to provide the technician with a
logical approach to solving aircraft problems, it includes
individual hands-on practice utilizing simulated aircraft system
malfunctions, and Pratt & Whitney, which allows recipients to
choose from any of the courses available at the Pratt & Whitney
Customer Training Center in East Hartford, Connecticut, or Quebec,
Canada, provided they meet the individual course requirements and
the course is being offered during a time acceptable to the
recipient.
Other scholarships are offered by JetBlue, Aviation Entrepreneur
Magazine, Horizon Air, the Aircraft Electronics Association,
Southwest Airlines, and other individual foundations.
AWAM is a nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of
championing women's professional growth and enrichment in the
