AMA Drone Report 05.09.19: DJI Action Cam?, Drones v Floods, ND UAS Network

Based on the success of their Osmo Pocket 3-axis gimbaled camera, DJI appears to be heading into the action camera market and taking direct aim at GoPro.

Some in the industry are hearing that DJI plans to repurpose the technology used in the Osmo Pocket into an action camera with a wide-angle rectilinear lens that will produce a more pleasing image than a fish-eye lens. DroneGear.TV reports that the camera is likely to have front and back LCD screens, and capture 4K video at 60 frames per second, and 1080p video at 120 fps. The Air Force is making a big deal of the efforts of Major Steven Bogert, 45th Reconnaissance Squadron, as a result of the recent tragic flooding near Offutt AFB. Initially, Bogert offered his truck to help people haul their property, but he quickly realized he could do more. He decided to fly his personally-owned drone over the community, with the permission of his neighbors. Bogert thought it would be helpful for people to understand the magnitude of the flooding. He posted his first video to the small town’s social media page -- generating hundreds of requests from other flood victims. The state of North Dakota is determined to be a leader in drone technologies... and is putting up serious bucks to prove it. Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford has presented HB1018, a $33 million investment in UAS technology and infrastructure in the state, at the Northern Plains UAS Test Site. This includes $28 million in funding for a statewide network that will support UAS flights beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
