YUP... its THAT time of year again! This is ANN's infamous April First Episode... strap in, and get ready to be fooled, bamboozled and led astray!
Drone Skeet has been selected as a demonstration sport for the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles, CA. Teams will consist of shooters and pilots competing in timed rounds. Each team will have 5 minutes to shoot down as many of the opposing team's drones as it can, then they will switch sides and the other team will have an opportunity to shoot. At the end of 6 rounds, the team which has downed the most drones will be declared the winner. Partial credit will be awarded for drones that are damaged but can still fly. SpaceX engineers are scrambling to resolve a possible orbital conflict 500 miles above the surface of Mars. When SpaceX launched their Falcon Heavy Rocket in 2018, Elon Musk's own Tesla Roadster was added to the launch vehicle as the payload. A full size, space-suited mannequin dubbed "Starman" was the sole occupant of the Roadster. The launch was a stunning success. All had proceeded as planned, with Starman zipping along towards Mars and its elliptical solar orbit. But
because the payload has no scientific purpose or instrumentation, the location can only be estimated. Lack of any sort of guidance or propulsion systems means course corrections are not possible. Recent observations by SpaceX have found that the roadster is not following a perfect trajectory. A plot has been uncovered to hack the drones scheduled to fly as part of the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019 night airshows by an AOPA employee. The plot came to light when an employee of Great Lakes Drone Company, which puts on the AirVenture show, noticed some unusual activity on one of its servers while they were working on a practice display. They traced the activity to an IP address in Fredericksburg, MD. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
