YSA Grant One Of Five Implemented By Group
Careers in Aviation announced this
week the organization recently received one of five internationally
awarded grants implemented by Youth Service America (YSA), the
Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP),
division of the US Department of Justice.
Grant recipients must be an organization that successfully
engage youth in the experience; to replicate the project effective
practices; and to provide other organizations in a broader network
or coalition that currently are without a youth strategy.
Recipients are required to involve youth in addressing the
world’s most pressing social issues. A primary vehicle for
those awarded will be to engage youth during the Global Youth
Service Day 2008 and 2009 addressing the issues relating to the
their projects.
Careers in Aviation has completed phase one of the two phase
project. Phase one involved Youth Mentors conducting an on-line
survey related to scholarship awareness. Phase two of the project
will be completed by the Fall 2008 with a focus toward airport
economic impact. Leading the projects is Careers in Aviation Youth
Mentor, Christopher Sidor.
"Careers in Aviation was chosen for the leadership and
commitment in a broader network and coalition," said Karen Daniel,
Global Youth Service Day Vice President. "We are excited that youth
will address important issues in the aviation community,
implementing a unique service project that engages public
officials, the media, and youth of all abilities."
Careers in Aviation aims to advance aerospace education and
employment by fostering scholarships, by connecting students with
available assistance, and by encouraging the aviation industry,
professional associations, government agencies, and the educational
community to work together effectively supporting aviation and
space career development programs.
