Retired: Lt. Gen. James E. Sherrard III, USAF

After Almost 40 Years

Lt. Gen. James E. Sherrard, III, relinquished command of the Air Force Reserve Command during a ceremony at Robins AFB (GA), Wednesday.

The ceremony was presided over by Gen. John P. Jumper, the Air Force chief of staff.

Maj. Gen. John J. Batbie, Jr., the AFRC's vice commander, will lead the command until General Sherrard's replacement is confirmed by the Senate.

President Bush has nominated Maj. Gen. John A. Bradley to replace General Sherrard, and to be promoted to lieutenant general.

General Sherrard returned to Robins AFB to say goodbye to friends and associates, and conclude a military career that spanned nearly four decades.

His retirement will take effect June 1.
