Robinson Helicopter Obtains Approval for Pressure Fueling System

Option for New Production R66s Enables Rapid Refueling and Turnaround with Waist-Level Port

Robinson has received approval for its R66 pressure refueling system, available on all new production models going forward.

The 13-pound system enables consistent, rapid refueling from waist level, doing away with the difficulty of stools and ladders to access higher refueling positions. The new fuel cap allows operators to enjoy much faster turnaround between flights, no matter the fuel quantity added. The system consists of more than just a fuel filler cap, with an additional control panel to mark full or partial fuel loads, as well as audio alerts in case of errors in the fuel system during takeoff. For added safety, overfill and overpressure prevention is baked into the system.

In the special conditions doc issued by the FAA, the system is described as providing "faster, easier, and safer refueling", particularly "when the engines are running and rotors turning compared to the existing fueling system located on the top of the main fuel tank." It notes that the pressure refueling system includes a crash-resistant fuel hose that runs from the fueling port on the right side to an inlet at the top of the fuel tank on the helicopter's left side, and that the system does not accommodate defueling.

Unfortunately for current R66 owners, the pressure refueling suite is not available as a kit at this time. It may only be had as an added factory option starting at $18,000.
