Greek, Albanian Prisoners Escape On Hijacked Helo

Not Again!

Why does this always seem to work? Apparently taking a page from Lucy Dudko -- the former librarian who masterminded a daring helicopter prison break in 1999 -- a Greek prisoner on the run hijacked a helicopter Sunday, and used the pilfered whirlybird to break his brother out of the high security Athens Korydallos prison.

Reuters reports that Vassilis Paleokostas, 40, was serving a 25-year sentence for kidnapping and bank robbery before his brother flew in on the hijacked helo, and carried him and an unidentified Albanian prisoner to freedom.

An official at the prison said guards thought the helicopter was part of an official inspection... and did nothing to stop the prison break.

The helicopter's pilot told authorities he was forced at gunpoint to fly the daring mission. He then flew the inmates to a cemetery close the prison, where Paleokostas' brother had stashed some motorcycles for the three to make their escape.

The daring prisoners are still on the run. As you may imagine, Greek police are none-too-happy about the incident... and have launced a massive manhunt for the convicts.
