New Phones For Flying Government VIP's

Installation Expected In 40+ U.S. Government Aircraft

TrueNorth Avionics  has been selected to supply its Simphone¯ (pronounced 'Symphony') airborne telephone for the U.S. government VIP transport fleet, as defined by the U.S. Air Force's TARS (terrestrial aeronautical radiotelephone system) program. Simphone¯, the executive-class system that features menu-driven handsets and TrueNorth's ClearCall technology for superior voice quality, will be used both on new aircraft and as a replacement for existing MagnaStar phones.

With its all-digital PBX, two built-in channels of worldwide Iridium Satcom, 'future-proof' modular architecture, dual CEPT-E1 network interfaces, self-programming personalized handsets, personalized screens and ringtones, and a unique configuration module, the Simphone¯ system gives government passengers an unprecedented degree of custom capability and cost-effective convenience.

The TARS program addresses cabin communications on more than 40 VIP transport aircraft. A new C-37B aircraft will receive the initial system installation.

"We're pleased that the U.S. government, with arguably the world's most significant VIP fleet, has chosen Simphone¯ for their communications needs," said Mark van Berkel, TrueNorth's CEO. "And we look forward to providing their passengers with the same executive-quality communications capability and support that our business aviation customers currently receive," he added.
