AD: The Boeing Company Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2017-19-02

PRODUCT: Certain Boeing Model 727 airplanes.

ACTION: Final Rule.

SUMMARY: This AD was prompted by analysis of the cam support assemblies of the main cargo door (MCD) that indicated the repetitive high frequency eddy current (HFEC) inspections required by the existing maintenance program are not adequate to detect cracks before two adjacent cam support assemblies of the MCD could fail.

This AD requires repetitive ultrasonic inspections for cracking of the cam support assemblies of the MCD and replacement if necessary.

COST: The FAA estimates this AD will affect 45 airplanes of U.S. registry. The cost of compliance for the inspection is estimated to cost $510 per aircraft per inspection cycle. Repairs, if needed, are estimated to cost $19,207 per aircraft for parts and labor.

DATES: This AD is effective October 19, 2017.
