New Orleans' Lakefront Airport Announces Super Bowl Plans

Aircraft Reservations Required February 1-4

New Orleans Lakefront Airport (KNEW) is requiring reservations from aircraft operators for airport use February 1- 4, 2013 for the Super Bowl XLVII event on Feb. 3, according to a release from the FAA Safety Team. A heavy volume of air traffic is expected during this time so a parking reservation system has been established to insure that ramp space will be available for arriving aircraft. A Prior Permission Required (PPR) number will be needed for all aircraft parking at Lakefront Airport. Your PPR number will indicate your parking location and this number must be given to air traffic control so that they can direct you to the correct turn off point on the runway.

Lakefront Airport FBOs Flight Line First (504-244-4448), Hawthorn Global Aviation (504-248-5240) and Landmark Aviation (504-241-2800), can assist in obtaining a PPR number. Lakefront Airport will have an Air Boss/Ramp Manager in place that will handle all communications with aircraft in non-movement area. Aircraft that choose to use Lakefront Airport for drop off or pick ups without using an FBO will be directed to the Terminal Apron (the terminal building is still under construction and not usable). No services will be available at the terminal and you should expect delays getting out as you will be blended into all departing traffic as departure slots become available through the Ramp Manager.

Lakefront Airport currently has no customs office to process passengers and cargo arriving  from origins outside the United States. Receipt of a PPR number is not permission for international flights to fly directly into KNEW without clearing Customs and Immigration prior to arrival at Lakefront Airport.

In addition, the FAA will utilize management initiatives when arrival rates exceed airport capacity. Pilots should be prepared for potential airborne holding, reroutes, or Expected Departure Clearance Times (EDCT) that may be issued for all domestic IFR arrivals to airports in the local area including New Orleans Lakefront Airport.
