Company Recognized For Work In RNP
Naverus was recently named the 2007
recipient of the Pinnacle Award by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University. The award for 2007 highlights contributions associated
with air traffic management. The award was presented at
Embry-Riddle's National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS), in a
ceremony held last week on ERAU's Daytona Beach campus.
The Pinnacle Award in the Corporation Category recognizes
Naverus' pioneering work in Required Navigation Performance (RNP),
which combines the advanced capabilities of modern aircraft and
avionics with sensor systems such as GPS to provide safer, more
efficient navigation for operators worldwide.
Embry-Riddle President John P. Johnson noted in his presentation
of the award that "Naverus' work has great promise as part of the
FAA's aggressive plans (NGATS) for increasing airspace capacity.
The prospect of providing safe, high-quality, three-dimensional
approach and departure service at airports of all sizes is now a
practicality ... the technologies pioneered by Naverus, applied in
quantity to general aviation reliever satellite airports is an
emerging reality, timed perfectly to serve the anticipated capacity
demand of new VLJ and air taxi services."
Steve Fulton, Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Naverus,
accepted the award on behalf of the company.
"RNP has a profound impact on our
industry," Fulton said. "It changes how we navigate, how we train
our pilots, how we plan our routes -- and ultimately, it will
change how all of us share the airspace of the future."
The Pinnacle Award is an Embry-Riddle tradition recognizing
outstanding contributions in areas of the aviation profession that
are aligned with their aviation education programs. The award is
named after the Pinnacles, the area near Dayton, OH where Wilbur
Wright made some of his first observations of birds in flight.
