Airborne 01.25.16: Sebring Expo, Launch.Land.Repeat, Criminal Drone Charges

Also: Reno Race Tax Grab, Bob Hoover’s Birthday!, Richthofen, 1st A320neo, Air Methods, Av Program, Fokker, Sonex/EarthX

Starting off for today, ANN’s CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, and News Editor, Tom Patton, comment on what went on at the Sebring Sport Aviation Expo last week.

The fact that they’re both bundled up in cold weather gear gives us a clue that there were some challenges. There’s an old adage in airplane flying that goes something like this, “A good landing is any landing you can walk away from, but a great landing is when you can fly the airplane again.” Now, Jeff Bezos and his Blue Origin Company can say the same thing about spaceflight. The very same New Shepard booster that flew above the Karman line and then landed vertically at its launch site last November has now flown and landed again, demonstrating reuse. When a municipality passes laws regarding drone flight, things can get tricky because the FAA actually owns the airspace. Now, the City of Los Angeles is testing its recently passed drone regulations by filing its first criminal cases against drone operators. Before Airborne Unlimited signs off today, all of us at ANN and especially, Jim Campbell, want to say happy birthday to our friend, and one of America’s greatest living aviators and all-around good guy, Bob Hoover. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
