Horizon Hobby RC Fest 2020 Cancelled

Big And Small, Aviation Events Continue To Be Impacted

A great model aviation event has fallen to the COVID Pandemic... Originally scheduled for October 2-3, for Eli Field in Monticello, Il, the 2020 RC Fest won't happen this year. Year after year Horizon RC Fest has grown to be a staple event for Horizon Hobby to bring thousands of people have together to enjoy everything radio control. Event organizers tell us that, "We were hoping that moving Horizon RC Fest out to a later date in October would allow it to happen in 2020. Current regulations and guidelines in Illinois for large gatherings and social distancing are not in our favor at this time and we are not sure what they will be in October..."

'The Airplane Came Down In A Straight Down Nosedive Followed By A "Boom" And Immediate Silence'

On August 20, 2020, about 2306 central daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Lancair Super ES airplane, N997S, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Ely, Minnesota. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. N997S arrived at Ely Municipal Airport (ELO), Ely, Minnesota, about 1200, and the pilot was given a minivan to use. The pilot returned to the airport 1600-1700 and asked airport personnel if he could continue to use the minivan. The fixed base operator at ELO closed at 1700.
