Unlucky Mooney Hit By Truck... After Successful Emergency Landing

Left Wing of Mooney Takes A Serious Hit

There's Good Luck, Bad Luck and NO Luck At All... as recently proven by a Mooney that was forced to execute a deadstick landing on an East Bound lane of Florida's Interstate 75, Wednesday morning. A twitter post by FHP summed up the tragedy... "A small airplane made an emergency landing on EB I75 (?? Alley) @ 40 mm. Once landed, a pickup truck collided with the left wing of the plane. Thankfully no injuries. The EB right lane of I75 remains closed at this time." An engine failure downed the M20R Mooney over Broward County. The 2007 M20R Ovation 3 GX, N120GX, had two persons on board and executed a safe emergency landing on the right side of the road with no known damage as it came to a stop. Whew... right? A

That became evident yesterday via video shot in front of Van's Aircraft, in Oregon, announcing that they were sending staff home to allow them to protect their homes in the face of massive smoke and nearby fire threats. On Wednesday, Van's noted that, "Van’s Aircraft is closing for the remainder of the day. Staff members are being sent home due to the low air quality and the dynamic con

EAA: Aviation Groups Seeking Further FAA COVID Relief

The Pandemic Continues to Wreak Havoc On The Aero-Verse

EAA notes that it was one of seven organizations who requested that the FAA grant pilots and flight instructors further extensions on meeting compliance deadlines pushed back by a SFAR published earlier this year. And a heckuva year it's been... so far. The joint effort, which included a letter to the Agency signed by the collaborating organizations, asked for continuing extensions to several currency items. Of particular relevance to EAA members was a request to continue medical extensions, noting difficulties in scheduling not just AMEs, but treating specialists during the pandemic.

The recent reports by two airline pilots in LAX airspace of a man flying a jetpack at 3000 feet are not technically feasible, at this point, says Jetpack Aviation's David Mayman... an experienced jetpack pilot and innovator. For the record, David is stuck in Australia, in quarantine, so this is not an attempt to evade responsibility, as he was thousands of miles away and all his jetpacks and pilots are otherwise accounted for... Aero-News: Quote of the Day (09.11.20)

"We have extended the closure at our HQ location, which we enacted due to wildfires in the area which have resulted in very poor air quality and evacuations in the surrounding areas. Many of our staff members have had to evacuate their homes with their families, while others are on standby to do so. As such, a significant number of people are displaced and have pressing family responsibilities. This way our Van’s team members can best take care of themselves and their families... As a result, we will not be conducting any business operations on Thursday. This includes telephone services, email communication, orders, shipping, and factory production. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your understanding during this dynamic and unpredictable time."
