AirVenture Will Host 'Special' Guests

Wide Range of USAF Special Operations Command Aircraft Coming to Oshkosh

The U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) will bring a wide spectrum of its aircraft designed for unique missions as part of its presence at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021, which takes place July 26-August 1. “As we’ve solidified the roster of aircraft from AFSOC this year, the variety of aircraft coming to Oshkosh is truly impressive,” said Rick Larsen, EAA’s vice president of communities and member programming, who coordinates AirVenture features and attractions. “Each of these aircraft have a distinct mission and role within AFSOC, and those stories will be told at AirVenture 2021.”

AMA and UASidekick To Provide LAANC Flight Planning Software To Modelers

Program Available To Nearly 175,000 UAS Hobbyists Who Are Members Of AMA

AMA and UASidekick announced a new partnership to disseminate free recreational Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) flight planning to nearly 175,000 UAS hobbyists who are members of AMA. The software allows pilots to file LAANC authorizations with the FAA when flying in controlled airspace via a web portal and mobile application. It includes additional flight planning tools such as interactive maps, weather information, and flight logs.

NTSB Prelim: Aeropro CZ S R O A240

No Known Witnesses That Observed The Airplane Takeoff Or The Accident Itself

On April 25, 2021, about 0745 eastern daylight time, an Aeropro CZ A240 light sport airplane, N417R, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near the Richmond Municipal Airport (RID), Richmond, Indiana. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. At 0737, a weather briefing was requested with an estimated departure time of 0750, and a visual flight rules (VFR) flight plan was filed from RID to Festus Memorial Airport (FES), Festus, Missouri, using the pilot’s ForeFlight account. The VFR flight plan was activated at 0737, the time it was filed.
