CAP Flights Scouted Landing Areas, Located Refugees
During Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, hundreds of aircraft
flew missions to evacuate the stranded residents of New Orleans.
But, it wasn't just military aircraft running rescue missions in
the congested skies above the hurricane-stricken region -- members
of America's Civil Air Patrol also provided support to the agencies
working there.

The US military is moving ahead with its plans to replace a large number of its C-23
Sherpas, as well as augment its aging fleet of C-130 Hercules, with
a new short-range plane known as the Joint Cargo
Aircraft -- and Mobile, AL is watching those
plans VERY carefully.
Heavy-Lifters Flying A Lot More Than Originally Planned
Earlier this week, Boeing and the Air Force announced the fleet
of C-17 Globemaster III airlifters currently in service reached one
million flying hours -- the equivalent of one of the cargo jets
flying continuously for more than 114 years.
