The FAA is sending an emergency airworthiness directive (AD),
2006-06-51, to all owners and operators of certain General Electric
Company Aircraft Engines (GEAE) CT7-8A turboshaft engines installed
on Sikorsky S92 helicopters.
It's moving time for up and coming LSA heavyweight, Flight
Design USA. The company has just completed a move to a new
headquarters in South Woodstock, Connecticut. The new 5000
square-foot facility is home to the company's import operation as
well as the headquarters of Flightstar kits and the sales and
service of HKS engines.
Sources in the USAF tell Aero-News that multinational pilots
from the United States and Malaysia joined forces this week in the
Pacific skies for Cope Taufan ‘06, a three-week air-to-air
training exercise designed to sharpen air combat tactic skills and
promote closer relations between allies.
As more and more personal pilots venture into turbine-powered
airplanes and the coming Very Light Jets (VLJs), more of us will
need to be aware of the distinctions brought on with this
increasing capability. One task that’s different at higher
speeds is holding.
"The increase in accidents is disappointing... but
the decrease in total fatalities is a hopeful sign. Overall, it is
clear that we need to maintain a strong focus on safety in all
segments of the aviation community."
Source: NTSB's Acting Chairman, Mark
Rosenker, commenting on a report by the NTSB noting that US civil
aviation accidents increased from 1,717 in 2004 to 1,779 in 2005.
However, total fatalities decreased from 636 to 600, and most of
these occurred in general aviation and air taxi operations.
