having dropped your F/A-18 into the Gulf of Mexico. Imagine having
been suspended from flight pending investigation.
The British government Monday confirmed ten people -- nine
airmen and a soldier -- were killed when a C130 Hercules went down
northwest of Baghdad on Sunday. The question now is, what brought
that Hercules down?
An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron
(VFA) 102 was involved in an accident on the flight deck of the
aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) approximately 100 miles
southeast of Yokosuka, Japan, Jan. 29 at approximately 1830, Japan
Standard Time.

That's how USMC Lance Corporal Buck Gates described his effort to
memorialize the men killed aboard at USMC CH-53 that went down in
Iraq over the weekend. In all, 27 of the 28 people aboard the Sea
Stallion were from his base in Hawaii. Forty-four years after the
island state itself was struck by a Japanese sneak attack, families
and friends of those who died aboard the Sea Stallion paid their
respects to those killed in the weekend downing of the Marine
helicopter.
