FAA Declines to Renew COVID-19 SFAR

Well... Reason and Patience were never the FAA's strong suit, anyway... as we report that the FAA has declined to renew its Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) for relief from certain regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic -- even though the end of the pandemic is pretty much still nowhere in sight. The first SFAR went into effect as most parts of the United States went into lockdown in March 2020. It provided for extensions of certain time-limited items such medical certificates, written test expiration dates, some flight reviews, and some flight currency checks.

Piper Aircraft has announced that their exclusive factory training provider for the M600, Legacy Flight Training, has taken delivery of a Frasca M600/SLS Simulator. Training using the new type-specific device began on February 1, 2021. NTSB Prelim: Extra Flugzeugbau GMBH EA300/L

Pilot Was Unable To Restart The Engine And The Airplane’S Left-Wing Stuck Trees And Terrain

On January 13, 2021, about 1319 eastern standard time, an Extra Flugzeubau GMBH EA300L, N771JP, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Pell City, Alabama. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, he departed with 14 gallons of fuel in the wing tanks and 12 gallons in the center tank. After a 10-minute flight, he was on approach about 1,500 ft above ground level when the airplane experienced a total loss of engine power.
