Skyborne Aviation Group has confirmed the proposed acquisition of its first pilot training base in the United States in Vero Beach, Florida. “Skyborne Airline Academy Vero Beach” will offer prospective pilots US FAA Part 141 approved training on a 13-month residential programme, as well as individual, part-time modules. It will also serve as a fair-weather base for Skyborne’s UK CAA Integrated ATPL programme, and welcome trainees from the Academy’s IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme as they complete their US FAA 141 CPL SEIR plus ME flying.

Van’s Aircraft reports that it is investigating a few reports of potential surface corrosion appearing on the interior aluminum surfaces of specific Quick Build wing and fuselage kits. Kits that are in-scope for this review are those that were assembled by a contract company and delivered to Van’s Aircraft between June 2020 and January 2021. They note that not all kits from this time period are necessarily affected, and the scope of their investigation is intentionally broad at to help ensure sufficient and complete information collection.

The inaugural Southern California Drone Film Festival is set for March 6, 2021 and marks the only event of its kind in California. The one-day virtual event will include panels on drone technology, cinematography, and video production, and will culminate with the awards ceremony highlighting shorts from creative storytellers.

The FAA has proposed a $27,500 civil penalty against an airline passenger for allegedly interfering with and assaulting a flight attendant. The FAA alleges that on an Oct. 19, 2020, Delta Air Lines flight from Miami, Fla., to Atlanta, Ga., the passenger was traveling with and sitting next to another passenger who refused to wear his mask, secure his seat tray table, and fasten his seatbelt. The flight returned to the gate as a result of the passenger’s refusal to follow the flight attendant’s instructions.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Yaborã Industria Aeronáutica S.A. Model EMB-135, EMB-145, -145EP, -145ER, -145LR, -145MP, -145MR, and -145XR airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports that calculations provided by the automatic takeoff thrust control system (ATTCS) are incorrect under certain conditions. This AD requires updating the software of the installed full authority digital engine control (FADEC) systems, as specified in an Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC) AD, which is incorporated by reference. AD 2021-01-05 Requires Modifying The Electrical Harness Installation

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. (Pilatus) Model PC-24 airplanes. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI identifies the unsafe condition as electrical harness installations on PC-24 airplanes that are not in compliance with the approved design. This unsafe condition could lead to wire chafing and potential arcing or failure of wires having the incorrect length, possibly resulting in loss of system redundancy, or generation of smoke and smell, or loss of power
