A model-C Ercoupe, N26R, owned and operated by Jessica Cox of ‘RightFooted International’  and motivational documentary ‘RightFooted’, was almost destroyed in the brief minutes it sat on the ramp at the John F. Joby Aviation One Certification Away From Launching Aerial Ridesharing Service

Earlier this week, Joby’s all-electric aircraft received FAA Part 135 Air Carrier Certification, which clears the way for it to begin operating its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in on-demand air taxi operations in the United States. With this in hand, Joby Aircraft is now one step away from the certification trifecta (Air Carrier, Type, and Production), and expects to add the Type certificate in sufficient time to launch the aerial ride-sharing service by 2024!

In the fall of 2021, Platform Aerospace launched its modified VA001 Vanilla UAV above Edwards Air Force Base in California, USA on 24 September 2021 and recovered it on 02 October 2021. This flight for 8 days 50 minutes, and 47 seconds across 12,2000 miles of continuous flight, set a world record for Group 3 Ultra-Long Endurance UAS (ULE UAS), and also piqued the interest of the United States Air Force.

David McBride, Director of NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center Retires

Having begun his career with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) some 35 years ago as an intern, Mr. David McBride (pictured) now retires from his position as Director of the Armstrong Flight Research Center (ARFC), effective 30 June 2022. Mr. McBride was appointed to this position in January 2010 where he oversaw all aspects of management, strategy, and operations at the ARFC, which was one of ten field centers, and the lead for atmospheric flight research, operations and testing.

Navigation Reference System (NRS) The NRS is a system of waypoints developed for use within the United States for flight planning and navigation without reference to ground based navigational aids. The NRS waypoints are located in a grid pattern along defined latitude and longitude lines. The initial use of the NRS will be in the high altitude environment in conjunction with the High Altitude Redesign initiative. The NRS waypoints are intended for use by aircraft capable of point-to-point navigation.
