"We've got a disaster. I feel embarrassed. I don't know what to
say.... I don't have a clue as to what failed or why it failed --
all I know is it failed."
Source: Air adventurer Gus McLeod, in an interview
with the Washington from a hangar at Frederick Municipal Airport,
where his latest attempt to circumnavigate the globe on a polar
route ended just 30-miles from home Sunday. McLeod landed his
aircraft after noticing a strange vibration and found the nosegear
wheelpants had come loose. He tore it off. The next thing he knew,
as he was taxiing to the runway to resume his epic journey, the
nosegear collapsed.
