Effective June 2, former NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe will
head GE Aviation's Washington DC operations, replacing Dr. Thomas
Cooper, who is retiring after serving in the role for 21 years.
Citing tips from three people familiar with the talks, the
Associated Press is reporting that meetings about seniority issues
between representatives of pilots at Delta and Northwest Airlines
are on hiatus, but that the two sides are still in
communication.
AerCap Holdings N.V. announced this week it has signed
agreements to lease 10 new Airbus A330-200 aircraft to the Russian
national carrier Aeroflot for lease periods between nine and 10
years. The aircraft are part of the order for 20 A330s that AerCap
placed with Airbus in December 2006, and increased by another 10
aircraft in March 2007.

A Major Airline Training Program Talks About Its Successes
Continuing this Two Part series, Aero-TV crews visited the
Delta Connection Academy as it unveiled its new 27,000-square foot
hangar at Sanford International Airport in Florida, during a grand
opening held to celebrate a capstone event in the Academy’s
extensive renovation and expansion.
US airlines set an annual record by carrying 769.4 million
scheduled domestic and international passengers on their systems in
2007, nearly 25 million more passengers or 3.3 percent more than
they did in 2006 when the previous high was reached, the US
Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation
Statistics (BTS) reported Thursday in a release of preliminary
data.
GE Aviation Also Onboard In Search For Sustainable Energy
Sources
Continental Airlines, Boeing and GE Aviation announced this week
plans to conduct a biofuels demonstration flight in the first half
of 2009, in an effort to identify sustainable fuel solutions for
the aviation industry. Continental is the first major US carrier to
announce plans to highlight technological advancements in
sustainable biofuels that can help to further reduce carbon
emissions.
Bombardier Aerospace announced this week the Government of Iraq
has placed a firm order for six CRJ900 NextGen airliners, which
will be used for civilian airline services in Iraq. The transaction
includes options on an additional four CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.
