An Olympic Airlines Airbus A340 bound for Athens from New York
was diverted to Shannon Airport early Sunday morning, following a
telephone threat of a bomb on board "for Saddam" -- an
apparent reference Friday's execution of former Iraqi leader Saddam
Hussein.
A part repair and overnight maintenance cancelled budget
airline JetStar's inaugural flight from Melbourne to Honolulu
Friday night. The problem was spotted, according to the Australian
AP, during final procedural checks as the first of 270 passengers
began boarding.
In what's being touted as a major victory for human allergy
sufferers, Air Canada this fall banned all animals -- with the
exception of service animals -- from aircraft cabins, with the
justification that such animals could trigger allergy attacks in
susceptible passengers.
