Boeing announced Thursday the identity of a previously unnamed
customer for five of its upcoming 787 Dreamliners. Leasing company
CIT Aerospace is expected to take delivery of the first of its
787-8s in 2012, in an order valued at approximately $765 million
list.
This year, it appears "October surprises" aren't limited to
politics... as Airbus is making a strong push for parity with
Boeing in the year-to-date order tally.
Just when you think they're down... Airbus manages to come back
in a big way. Earlier speculation that Airbus would receive a big
order during French president Jacques Chirac's visit to China was
confirmed Thursday... and, as is often the case with Airbus, the
numbers are even bigger than originally rumored.
Where's the next big market for commercial airliners? It should
come as no surprise the answer is China... where Boeing expects as
many as 2,900 new planes will be delivered by 2025.
Just in time for Halloween... we have another apparent Blue Ice
attack, this one in California. Last week, a chunk of ice fell down
from the sky, and onto the roof of an elderly couple's home in
Chino.
The decision to close down its Connexion inflight internet
business cost Boeing a bundle in the third quarter... as profits at
the American aerospace manufacturer fell 31 percent compared to a
year ago. That loss comes as Boeing reported its greatest sales
increase in five years, with a 19 percent increase compared to a
year ago.
It's not easy to get a new airline off the ground.. just ask the
management of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, a new low-cost carrier
planning to fly between Hong Kong and London.
It appears the bomb threat that forced an Austrian Airlines
flight bound for Frankfurt to return to Vienna last weekend was
nothing more than... wait for it... a rather thoughtless joke.
