Airborne 08.24.17: Grounded Warbirds, KSFO Investigation, Bombardier Global 7000

The UK’s Royal Air Force has grounded several WWII aircraft over concerns about the engines installed on the airplanes. The RAF grounded several aircraft associated with its Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Four Spitfires, two Hurricanes and a Lancaster bomber have been grounded until an issue with the engine aboard one of the Hurricanes can be checked out. The BBMF airplanes had been scheduled to fly at Biggin Hill festival of flight near London, and the Eastbourne international airshow in East Sussex. AMA Drone Report 08.24.17: UAS4STEM Nat'l Competition, Long Distance UAV, DJI Update

On Saturday, August 19th, high school students from across the US competed in the UAS4STEM National Competition at the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana. The student teams built their own drones and competed in a search-and-rescue challenge for the national title. The contest is designed to teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills. The 2017 UAS4STEM Search and Rescue Challenge’s first-place winners are MMRT from Peachtree City, Georgia, who were awarded a trophy, medals, and a $2,500 cash prize. Launch Vehicle for Amazonas 5 Arrives At Baikonur

Will Boost An SSL Satellite Into Orbit In September

The ILS Proton Launch Vehicle hardware for the Amazonas 5 launch arrived at the launch site in Baikonur via train on August 18th. The LV hardware includes the Proton, Breeze M, Payload Fairing, and Ascent Unit. Offloading into Halls 101 and 111 is now in progress. Launch is scheduled for September from Pad 39.
