Big News! Northrop Buys Out Scaled Composites

Company Currently Working On SpaceShipTwo, New Carrier Vehicle

Say it ain't so, Burt! Pending regulatory approval by the US Department of Justice, Northrop Grumman Corp. plans to increase its stake in Scaled Composites -- the maverick aerospace company led by Burt Rutan, and builder of the Ansari X-Prize Cup-winning SpaceShipOne -- from 40 percent to 100 percent.

Two National Aeronautics and Space Administration robots are surveying a rocky, isolated polar desert within a crater in the Arctic Circle. The study will help scientists learn how robots could evaluate potential outposts on the moon or Mars.
