Airborne 04.23.18: Hemisphere Suspended, Thunderbirds Fly, Apple v Drones

Textron Aviation has suspended work on the Citation Hemisphere large business jet, citing ongoing problems with the Safran Silvercrest engine selected to power the new airplane. Textron CEO Scott Donnelly announced the suspension during a conference call with analysts last week. "I think everybody knows there have been some issues around the engine that was slated for that aircraft," Donnelly said. The USAF Thunderbirds demonstration team has resumed operations and practice following the fatal injury of pilot Major Stephen "Cajun" Del Bagno during training on April 4. Thunderbirds commander Lt. Will Engineer Advanced 3D Printed Parts For NASA's Orion Mission

Stratasys Ltd. and Phoenix Analysis & Design Technologies are teaming with Lockheed Martin Space to deliver next-generation 3D printed parts for NASA’s Orion deep-space spacecraft. Components Include Environmental Controls And Life Support

Cobham announced at the 34th Space Symposium that it has recently been awarded contracts by Lockheed Martin Space to supply a suite of space-rated life support and propulsion components for NASA’s Orion deep space exploration spacecraft. The components will fly on the Exploration Mission-2 crew module, the first flight of Orion with astronauts onboard. Components for the Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) include regulators, positive pressure relief valves, check and relief valves, pyrotechnic valves, and oxygen service valves used to maintain a life sustaining environment for the astronauts.
