Honeywell Unveils JetWave X SATCOM System

Successor to Honeywell’s JetWave SATCOM System

Honeywell has unveiled its JetWave X architecture, a next-generation high-speed in-flight connectivity solution optimized for the business aviation industry.

JetWave X will provide customers with unprecedented coverage and data speeds by leveraging Viasat’s Ka-band network, including its ViaSat-3 satellites and the Global Xpress (GX) satellites from its recently acquired Inmarsat business, offering the highest capacity available in the market today. JetWave X builds upon the success of Honeywell’s JetWaveTM SATCOM system by being easier to install and having greater service network flexibility, with the capability to connect to any Viasat Ka-band satellite.

In collaboration with Viasat, Honeywell has designed JetWave X to unlock significant increases in data rates for the business aviation industry, enabling access to speeds that exceed increasing passenger demands and the most data-hungry applications of the future, with typical speeds consistently greater than 30 Mbps and as high as 100 Mbps, even in the busiest flight corridors.

Designed for mobility applications, Viasat is expanding its Ka-band constellation to include eight advanced new satellites currently under construction. These will provide additional capacity that aligns well to the needs of the business aviation market, including capacity focused on the most highly trafficked routes and over the busiest hubs. Additionally, with the unique ability to dynamically steer capacity to where it’s needed, passengers are ensured consistent high speeds wherever they fly, reinforcing why a GEO-centric approach provides the best connectivity experience for business aviation.

“The demand for fast and seamless internet connectivity has been growing rapidly in the business aviation industry as the amount of in-flight data being consumed increases dramatically,” said Jason Wissink, president, Services and Connectivity, Honeywell Aerospace. “JetWave X will connect to Viasat’s current Ka-band network at entry into service, in addition to its upcoming satellites for the network, providing greater flexibility for business jet users. We will also continue to support the current generation of JetWave systems installed and operating today. Current JetWave systems will also experience a performance boost with the existing systems being able to support the higher speeds of new JX Evolution plans.”

“This is an exciting collaboration with Honeywell, resulting in a terminal solution designed specifically for business aviation customers to access advanced, high-speed solutions over Ka-band for a broad range of aircraft, from super-midsize to large cabin business jets,” said Kai Tang, head of Business Aviation, Viasat. “Over 5,000 business jets trust in Viasat to deliver fast and consistent connectivity speeds that allow video-conferencing, streaming video, corporate VPN access, and more during all phases of flight. Looking ahead, as expectations for in-flight Wi-Fi performance from flight operators and passengers soar in concert with data demand, Viasat will continue its decades-long history of advancing the gold standard of business jet connectivity with our partners.”

In addition to accessing Viasat’s high-performing network, JetWave X also offers a number of significant benefits including ease of installation, flexible service plans and superior Honeywell support that will enable users to select the product and services that offer the best value aligned with their needs.

Honeywell’s satellite communications systems provide operators, passengers and crew with reliable, consistent connectivity throughout the world. They serve a range of needs, including in-flight connectivity for voice and data-streaming in the cockpit and the cabin, as well as fleet tracking and aircraft management.
